Mount Appallan Wine at Rosehill Homestead
Mount Appallan Vineyards is the first commercial wine producer in Biggenden Shire (‘Where the coast meets the country') in the heart of the Wide Bay-Burnett. The vineyard is within a hilly pastoral property (previously dairy) that has been in the Goodchild family since 1912.
Plantings (since 1998) have been of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Chardonnay, Verdelho and Petit Verdot. Wine making has been contracted out but Syd Goodchild has made two of the 2006 wines at Draycot. Both dry and sweeter styles of wines are being produced. Wines are available for tasting and sales at Rosehill Homestead in Maryborough. Rosehill is Maryborough’s oldest homestead (1856/59) and tours of the Homestead are available.
Also available with country hospitality are tasting platters, Devonshire teas on fine china and lunches by appointment.
