Maryborough Base Hospital

Featured on Maryborough's Walk and Drive Tour - The first public hospital outside Brisbane was established in Maryborough in 1856. This was replaced by a two storey building in Lennox Street in 1864. This present hospital was opened in May 1887 at a cost of £13,000. The original buildings remain, though are hidden from the street by the more modern additions. The Maryborough Base Hospital was the first in Queensland to train male nurses in 1971.
