Maryborough Sugar Factory Pty Ltd

Featured on the Maryborough Heritage City Walk and Drive Tour - The first Maryborough sugar to be manufactured was in 1864 when John Buhot demonstrated sugar making using cane grown from John Eatons plantation Rose Hill Estate. The Maryborough Sugar Factory began in 1886 as a juice mill in the Island Plantation area. Following the flood in 1893, the decision was made to relocate the mill to its present flood free site two kilometres from Maryborough and upgrade the mill to produce sugar, thus centralising production in 1895. The company was privatised in 1941 and was run by the Braddock family for four generations.
