Bunya Mountains National Park
Queensland’s second-oldest national park protects the world’s largest remaining bunya pine rainforest. Until the late 1800s, Aboriginal people came from afar for bunya nut festivals. Today, visitors camp, walk and relax in the cool air and observe southern boobooks snoozing in grass trees.
This park is a walker's paradise with 35 kilometres of tracks, from 500 metres to 10 kilometres, many leading to attractive 'balds' with great views. Serious walkers find remote lookouts and waterfalls. Birdwatchers seek catbirds, rare sooty owls and quails. See grazing red-necked wallabies at numerous picnic areas.
