Emu Creek State Forest Park
In Benarkin State Forest on the Blackbutt Range, majestic hoop pines rise above dense subtropical rainforest. Pines planted in the 1920s thrive near blue gum and ironbark forests. From the Benarkin day-use area, just off the D'Aguilar Highway, enjoy a 13 kilometre forest drive leading to two camping areas.
From Clancys, walk the dog (on a leash), or ride your mountain bike or horse on the National Bicentennial Trail. At Emu Creek (which has wheelchair-accessible toilets), look for turtles, platypus, and pigeons feeding in fig trees. On the Silky Oak walk, see lizards sunbathing and honeyeaters feeding in the bottlebrushes.
