Mirani Museum

Housed in a building constructed by the Mirani Shire Council with the aid of a Bicentennial Grant, Mirani Museum first opened its doors in 1988. The Shire Library is at the front of the complex.

The collection was started with the purchase by the Shire Council of the Williams Collection. This was a Collection of memorabilia by Jack Williams who lived at Eungella. Jack was very interested in photography and Natural History and his Collection contains many items relating to these two subjects.

The Museum is a local history Museum and the focus is on the history of the Mirani Shire and Pioneer Valley as a whole.

There is a large Collection of photographs to browse through as well as information and records suited to those doing family history research.

The Collection includes memorabilia from the early Pioneers, the many industries of the Valley, some Aboriginal artefacts, items from the South Sea Islanders (kindly loaned by the Fatnowna Family), as well as items from early school days and everyday household items.

The Natural History section is a popular one with School groups because of the dinosaur fossils which are on display.

The Sugar Industry Display is one of our largest displays and is still being developed.

Although owned by the Mirani Shire Council, the Museum is operated by a dedicated group of volunteers, the Friends of the Museum.

Hours of operation are 9.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. on weekdays and 9.30 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. on Sundays. The Museum is closed on Public Holidays and Saturdays.

Groups are welcome (10 or more) and they will receive a discounted entry. Morning tea is provided by prior arrangement.
