Charleville School of Distance Education
The Charleville School of Distance Education (incorporating Charleville School of the Air) was established in 1966 in conjunction with the Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS) Base. It was the third school of the air established in Queensland.
The Charleville School of Distance Education has approximately 230 students, 30 teachers, as well as 10 support staff and offers education for preschool, prep to year 10.
The geographical catchment area of The Charleville School of Distance Education is 402,000 square kilometres of South West Queensland.
Teachers conduct daily telephone lessons for prep, primary and secondary children, and the preschoolers have two lessons a week. To assist teachers with daily lessons, families are supplied with a specially designed telephone and headset by the school.
During the course of each year, field services are held for students in major centres. These provide an opportunity for parents, and students participate in educational activities that supplement their distance education curriculum papers and on air lessons.
