Combo Conservation Park
This string of semi-permanent waterholes in Queensland’s outback reputedly inspired Banjo Paterson to pen Waltzing Matilda, Australia's most popular folk song. The waterholes were one of seven Cobb & Co. stops on the Winton to Kynuna route. Today, Combo offers visitors the opportunity to relax and admire a picturesque and quiet area, relatively unchanged since Banjo visited in 1895.
Enjoy a bush picnic under the coolibah trees on the banks of these famous waterholes. See the stone-pitched overshot weir built by Chinese labourers more than 100 years ago. The waterholes along the Diamantina River are a refuge for wildlife; numerous bird species frequent them.
