Currawinya National Park
Like a magnet amid the semi-arid mulga landscape, Currawinya's internationally important wetlands draw thousands of waterbirds and migratory shorebirds. A predator-proof “bilby fence” has created another refuge. The 25 square kilometre enclosure was built to protect captive bred and rehabilitated greater bilbies.
With 200 bird species and four large kangaroo species, wildlife watching is a must-do. Take your binoculars and drive (four wheel drive only) to saline Lake Wyara and freshwater Lake Numalla early in the morning. Bush camp at Ourimperee Waterhole behind the Woolshed or on the Paroo River near the old Caiwarro Homestead site. Fish the Paroo or canoe and swim at Lake Numalla.
