Woodworks The Forestry And Timber Museum
Woodworks The Forestry and Timber Museum gives visitors a fascinating insight into the timber industry of yesteryear. The museum features an impressive display of old equipment from the colonial era; wooden washing machine, timber harvesting implements and bullock wagons. Of particular interest is a huge cross section of a 619 year old Kauri Pine. Watch working demonstrations of skilled timber men using adzes, crosscut saws, broad axes and shingle froes. You will also see a 1925 Republic winch truck, blacksmith shop, timber cutters hut, historic film footage on video, informative literature and museum shop.
The steam-driven sawmill operates several times a year, usually on a Saturday during school holidays and special events. Specific dates need to be checked direct with Woodworks.
You can buy woodturned articles and other souvenirs of your trip to Woodworks.
Demonstrations for school and other groups may be arranged for weekdays by appointment.
