Main Roads Heritage Centre
At the Main Roads Heritage Centre, travel through exciting exhibitions showcasing the story of a department rich in history and culture and experience how hard work and a pioneering spirit have helped create today's fabulous road network, connecting Queensland.
Visitors can journey down memory lane on a variety of road surfaces and discover the departments’ road planning, construction and design through objects, texts, photos, DVD presentations and rich oral excerpts. The centre offers young and old alike the perfect opportunity to reflect on Main Roads' journey and celebrate the efforts of those who have helped shape the state.
Exhibition themes include Aboriginal pathways, early European roads, the beginning of Main Roads, surveying and camp life, quarries and explosives and modern design, construction and maintenance.
Children will meet an array of characters along their dedicated children's trail and 'experience' aspects of road construction history through hands-on interactive exercises, the oral histories and an education program.
