Goold Island National Park
Forests spill on to the sandy beaches of this pristine tropical Goold Island National Park in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. Dugongs and turtles feed on seagrass beds in shallow waters surrounding the island. The park is significant to Aboriginal people. They built extensive fish traps here in the past.
Relax, bush camp and picnic on the western beach and enjoy superb views of nearby Hinchinbrook Island. Walk through eucalypt woodland and return along the beach. Explore patches of rainforest flourishing in rocky gullies, and mangroves next to the shore. Look for colourful fish and starfish. In summer, listen for feeding pied imperial-pigeons which nest on nearby Brook Island.
