Mount Lewis Forest Reserve

In Mount Lewis Forest Reserve, Queensland’s highest road winds through upland rainforest. Part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, this park is also home to significant rare and threatened wildlife, including the white form of the lemuroid ringtail possum and the Mount Lewis spiny cray. Take a scenic 28 kilometre drive through the forest. Picnic beside a rainforest creek. Walk the short track to a small dam, a relic from tin-mining days and a popular spot for birds. Take binoculars and watch for golden bowerbirds, blue-faced parrot-finches and southern cassowaries. Go spotlighting for a variety of possums.
