Undara Volcanic National Park

In Undara Volcanic National Park, ribbons of emerald-green vine thicket contrast with surrounding dry savanna woodland to mark the courses of some of the world’s longest lava tubes. Up to 45 kilometres in length, these enormous, hollow rock tubes formed about 190,000 years ago. Channelling rainwater, they provide a habitat for intriguing communities of plants and animals. Visit the lava tubes on an organised tour. Walk around the rim of Kalkani Crater. Explore the self-guided walking trails. Watch the sunset, while clouds of bats exit the caves. Accommodation and a camping area are available at the nearby resort. Access to the lava tubes is through an organised tour only.
