Stewart Head Trail

This walk extends beyone the Great Northern Mines Walk, following the trail up to the Herberton Firetrail, veering to the right until you reach the opencut mine known as Ironclad. Just past the Ironclad is a small trail leading off the firetrail to the left. This is the start of the Stewart Head Walk.

The track travels upwards towards the ridge (St Patrick Hill) The trail keeps predominantly to the south of the spine of this ridge. Follow the trail along a series of hills, some quite steep. You'll find a sign indicating Stewart Head, which from this point is a 400 metre climb to the top, where the views are spectacular.

On your return to the sign, turn left, continuing down the trail towards the old quarries. Signage at the quarries points you back in the direction of Herberton, reaching White Street and a short walk back to the carpark.
