The Great Northern Mines

This walk takes you past the three mineshafts that contributed to the tin ore production which was the mainstay of the Herberton economy.

Visit Prospectors Gully, where Iron Ore was first discovered in 1880, visit the original Gully shaft, spotting mining relics along the way. Follow the trail past the Eastern Shaft and buildings, rejoining the main trail past the No 3 shaft and building, the last producer of the Great Northern Mining Claim in this area until mining ceased in the 1950's.
