The Savannahlander
The Savannahlander is a unique way to see Australia's tropical savannah. Once a week the classic 1960s rail motors head out from Cairns on a four day, 850 kilometre return trip to Forsayth.
For much of the journey the Savannahlander has the railway line to itself and this allows passengers to experience a type of train travel that most won't have come across before. Want the driver to stop so you can take a photo? Just ask! Need to stop and take a look at that termite mound? No worries! Want to sneak up on a mob of kangaroos? Too easy! Want to have a drive? No, sorry, but you can have a seat up the front next to the driver!

Full Works PackageThis package features the highest level of accommodation and all the tours. You stay overnight at the Chillagoe Cabins, Cobbold Gorge, and in the Railway Carriages at Undara Lodge. Tours include Chillagoe Caves and town tour, a morning Cobbold gorge boat cruise and a two hour lava tube tour. Dinner and Breakfast at overnight accommodation is included. This package is subject to availability of accommodation (book early!) although alternatives can usually be arranged. Not all railway carriages at Undara have ensuites although they are our priority when booking this package. Only double rooms have ensuites. If you want twin rooms, ensuites will not be available. Note that you can subtract AUD10.00 off the rates provided if you don't get an ensuite room. Pub Crawl TourEnjoy the hospitality of the outback pubs on this trip. Meals are not included (except at the Goldfields Hotel in Forsayth, where a light breakfast is included), but great value pub counter meals are available at all venues. You stay at the Railway Hotel, Almaden, Goldfields hotel in Forsayth and the Mt Surprise Hotel. Train and Tour PackageThis package offers all the tours, but staying in accommodation in Forsayth and Mt Surprise, rather than out at the tour sites. Includes transfers, tours of Chillagoe Caves and town, Cobbold Gorge and Undara, dinner and breakfast at overnight accommodation. Train Buffs TourThis one is for those more interested in the train trip than the tours, but who still demand a high standard of accommodation. Included is a tour of Chillagoe caves, dinner and breakfast at overnight accommodation, which is at Chillagoe Eco Lodge and Observatory, Forsayth Tourist Park and a motel room in the Mt Surprise tourist park. | |
