Cairns Golf ClubEstablished in 1930, Cairns Golf Club's 18 hole layout was redesigned by Ross Watson in 1992. Set amid spectacular mountain scenery, the course features generous fairways and large greens making it player-friendly for members and social players. However for all major events the course proves a more challenging test. With the tees back and the pins tricky suddenly friendly becomes mean and the course proves that it can bite back. One of the standout holes is the par three 11th. This hole presents golfers with a 151 metre carry over a large lake to a green backdropped by the course's signature pandanus palms. Gordonvale Golf ClubSituated 20 kilometres south of Cairns at the foot of Walsh's Pyramid you will find picturesque Gordonvale Golf Club. This typical Australian country style golf course, with fully stocked pro shop and light refreshments available from the clubhouse. The course is located on and beside the local horse racing track and also beside the local sugar mill. On a good day during the cane processing season a lovely sweet smell blows over most of the course. There are also good views of the notable local land feature Walsh's Pyramid. The length of the course is 5575 metres for a par 70 and ACR 69 and for women 5075 metres for par 72 and AWCR 70. The course is made up of six Par 3s ranging from 110-180 metre, eight Par 4s ranging from 275-425 metres and four Par 5s ranging from 440-525 metres, and the greens are 328 bermuda couch grass. Half Moon BayA tight par 70 all-weather-course overlooking the Coral Sea, Half Moon Bay Golf Club features sweeping views looking west to the rainforest clad mountain ranges behind Cairns. An easy 20 minute drive from the Cairns Central Business District to the south, or Palm Cove to the north, with a backdrop of the lush rainforest and fairways just 20 metres from the Coral Sea, this beautiful course is what golf in the tropical north is all about. Supporting a myriad of birdlife, the course features undulating fairways and beautiful greens that will test any level of golfer. Mareeba Golf ClubMareeba Golf Club is a little over one hour drive from Cairns and averages 300 sunny days per year, so rain is rarely a problem. With wide, lush and gently undulating fairways, this relatively flat course is abundant with native trees and wildlife, especially the grey kangaroos which need to be cleared from the fairways to begin play! This is a typical Australian course with a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere suitable to all players. Included in this tour is a Golfer's lunch pack. Mirage Country ClubThe Mirage Country Club is one of the most spectacular resort courses in the world. It was designed by Champion golfer Peter Thomson and features two kilometres of absolute beach frontage. It also boasts Australia's only night lit aquatic driving range. The course has also hosted the Super Skins Game which features some of the worlds finest golfers. The one hour transfer from Cairns City is along the most scenic coastline that the North has to offer. Paradise PalmsConstantly ranked as one of Australia's best and most challenging courses, Paradise Palms offers a combination of sweeping fairways, snaking creeks, six lakes, narrow undulating greens and 94 bunkers. From every tee the golfer is presented with a truly spectacular and demanding layout before them. Adeptly described as one of the most serene playing fields to be experienced the backdrop alone is worth the effort – regardless of form. Designed by Graham Marsh and Ross Watson and first opening in 1990 the par 72 course measures 6,464 metres off the championship tees (with four tee spots on offer) and its' AGU rating of 76 offers the first clue as to the scale of the challenge that awaits the keen golfer. Hosted ‘Skins' Tournament 1990, included players: Greg Norman, Curtis Strange, Bernhard Langer and Isao Aoki, Graham Marsh. Sea Temple Golf and Country ClubSituated in Port Douglas, Sea Temple provides 18 holes of challenging golf. Peter Thomson, Wolveridge and Perret have designed a true links style course in the tropics. Offering the breathtaking combination of tropical palms meeting the towering rainforest, it has a North Queensland style club house with a full licensed bar and restaurant.
