St George Church and Cemetery Tours

You are invited to experience South Australian history on a tour of St George's Church and Cemetery. Built on land given by Captain John Finlay Duff, it is unique in architecture, constructed on Kentish Masonry lines in 1848.

St George's was the first Church of England to be consecrated in the colony by Augustus Short first Bishop of Adelaide and sadly, his baby daughter was the first burial in the churchyard two weeks after.

Walking through the cemetery your tour guide will unfold the lives of South Australian pioneers and devout members of the parish such as Dr Christopher Rawson and Mary Penfold, founder of Penfold Winery, Frederick George Waterhouse, explorer and first curator of the South Australian Museum, Sir George Murray, Chief Justice, Chancellor of the Adelaide University and Lieutenant Governor of South Australia.

Tour is a must see if you love history. A real gem.
