National Aboriginal Cultural Institute - Tandanya
Tandanya is a unique place to explore and experience contemporary and traditional Aboriginal cultural expression, through the performing and visual arts. Tandanya exhibits the work of emerging and established Indigenous artists.
Situated in Adelaide, it is the gateway to a better understanding of the diversity of Aboriginal people and culture. Tandanya is a place of learning.
Tandanya is the Kaurna Aboriginal name for the Adelaide city area and was for many, many thousands of years, a place for special ceremonies connected with Red Kangaroo Dreaming. Adelaide is built on Kaurna (pronounced Garn-na) land.
Tandanya has several galleries featuring local, national and internationally acclaimed exhibitions - which change all the time. Our curator searches for the best quality exhibitions from all over Australia and for works that best reflect the diversity of culture and art within Indigenous communities.
Come and hear our experienced didgeridoo players talk about one of the world's oldest musical instrument and about their passion for the didgeridoo. It is a must for visitors. Performances are at 12 noon, Tuesday to Friday, or at other times, by appointment.
Other Indigenous performers such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dancers and storytellers are also available by negotiation and appointment. Performances are at12 noon, Saturday and Sunday.
Tandanya's retail shop sells an extensive range of authentic artefacts, art, and crafts. Our friendly staff know the products we sell, and will be pleased to help you with your purchase.
