Adelaide Botanic Garden

The Adelaide Botanic Garden is a lush garden oasis in the cosmopolitan heart of Adelaide city.

A favourite retreat for locals and visitors, this 30 hectare nook of the city offers beautifully themed gardens featuring Australian natives, exotic and ornamental plants in one stunning location.

The magnificently restored art-deco Palm House is a favourite visitor attraction. This stately ornate glasshouse houses a cactus and succulent garden featuring rare arid land Madagascan flora, now highly threatened in the wild. Imported from Germany in 1875 its thought to be one of the oldest glasshouses of any botanic garden in Australia.

The Botanic Garden is also a source of inspiration and learning. Be inspired by the water-wise SA Water Mediterranean Garden, visit the new Amazon Waterlily Pavilion, which houses the rare South American waterlily or stroll in a jungle of giant rainforest plants from Northern Australia and South East Asia in the Bicentennial Conservatory - the biggest glasshouse in the Southern Hemisphere.

Visit in spring to admire the brilliant sea of colour in the International Rose Garden or stroll through the Wisteria arbour and smell the sweetly wafting perfume.

You can learn more about the garden's delights by joining a free, Friends of the Botanic Garden guided walking tour. Tours leave from the new Schomburgk Pavilion at 10.30am daily, (except Christmas and Good Friday). Facilities include an alfresco cafe, Visitor Information Centre, gift shop, and the acclaimed Botanic Garden Restaurant.
