The Apothecary 1878
The Apothecary 1878 Wine Bar Restaurant is a true incarnation of a European-style wine bar.
It sits in a heritage-listed building in the heart of Adelaide's West End precinct. Explore the history, feel the culture, and lose yourself in the elegance.
The Apothecary was named after the 125-year-old antique pharmacy cabinets that grace the front bar. These were discovered buried beneath layers of dust at the rear of an Adelaide antique shop, and originally from London. These mahogany pieces feature pure crystal drawer handles with 18-carat gold leaf inscriptions.
The Apothecary's main bar features tumbled marble floor tiles are arranged in the same style as the footpaths of Italy. Classic Thonet chairs are drawn up to elegant solid marble and brass tables - a superb place to sit with friends and enjoy a bar plate and glass of wine or two.
Antique chaise lounges and seating have been rescued to create an inviting atmosphere in the secluded cellar. Rustic brickwork lines the walls, and some 1200 wines quietly sleep behind intricate wrought iron work. The historic feel is carried through to the upstairs dining area, with rich velvet carpet, mahogany cabinet and imported chandeliers.
The Apothecary boasts an extraordinary range of quality champagnes not only from the great houses such as Pol Roger, Veuve Clicquot, but also some wonderful lesser known names such as Gosset, Duval-Leroy, Andre Drappier and many others. This fine selection of champagnes is complemented by superb food making. The Apothecary is a must when dining in Adelaide.
The courtyard and cellar create a spectacular atmosphere, suitable for a small gathering or a group of 50.
The Apothecary 1878 prides itself on its extensive wine selection, choice of catering options and professional service.
