Jim Barry Wines
Jim Barry's introduction to the Clare Valley came in 1946 when, as a final year oenology student at Roseworthy Agricultural College, he undertook work experience at the Clarevale Co-operative.After graduating at the end of the year from Roseworthy, Jim Barry accepted a position as Clarevale's winemaker - the first qualified winemaker to work in the Clare Valley.
Jim and his wife, Nancy, purchased their first property in 1959 on the northern outskirts of Clare. The property was part of the original estate of Edward Burton Gleeson, founder of Clare.
After leaving Clarevale in 1969, Jim and Nancy established their own winery and cellar door at their north Clare property. It was the first new winery built in the Clare Valley for 70 years. In 1974, the first "home-made" wines were produced and signalled the beginning of Jim Barry Wines.
