Martindale Hall
Martindale Hall, built in 1879, is a Georgian style mansion designed by Ebenezer Gregg of London for Edmund Bowman who lived the princely life there until 1891. Built largely in Manoora freestone. The ornately moulded and carved stonework is a tribute to the tradesmen of the day who were brought from England especially for this purpose. The Italian Renaissance interior is highlighted in the stately main hall and vestibule, with a domed glass roof, parquetry floor and the marvellous T-shaped staircase rising to the overhanging gallery. For many years it was owned by the Mortlock family.
The building was used as a girls boarding house for the filming of Picnic at Hanging Rock.
Classified by the National and State Heritage Branch and the National Trust.
Accommodation and formal dinner available, details on application. Fully licensed for guests only. Tours of the house are available by prior arrangement. Concessions available for groups, must be pre-booked.
Open seven days a week for public viewing. No entry to the house or grounds outside opening hours.
