Kimba Historical Museum
The turnstile which provides open access to the grounds is a relic from the railway yard and leads to the new visitor centre. The pioneer house has been reconstructed from original materials, except for roofing, used in the first home built in 1908 and is set up as a working unit. Demonstrations are a feature.
Other buildings include - the one teacher school, complete with flagpole, bell and cairn which is fully equipped for demonstration lessons.
The museum collection, containing a comprehensive display of photographs, maps and models, files and books in a study area, tapes and films that have local significance, and general thematic displays featuring various memorabilia relating to community history.
The blacksmith shop is made from native pines and fully equipped for demonstrations. The government shed is currently housing trucks and the number two government shed houses horse drawn trolleys, wagons and harness. The stationary engine shed, a steel framed shed housing a comprehensive range of engines used to supply power for farming and household purposes in this area. The machinery shed, displays farming machinery. Clancy's Shed houses Kimba's first fire engine. The telephone exchange, which was one of the first of the rural automatic exchanges, with a section of dingo proof fencing that can be seen within the grounds.
Water conservation scoops, plough and pumps together with maps and records are central to the collection. The newest display area features water and includes a working model of the chain pump used at government dams. The pioneer shop is an example of the usual general store of about the 1920s with postal and telephone services. All areas are under continual upgrade.
The Musuem will be closed for harvest from 30 November to 1 February.
There is an entry ramp to all areas except the Visitor Information Centre.
