Great Australian Bight Marine Park
The magnificent Southern Right Whale visits the southern coast of Australia each year. The whales come to mate, give birth and raise their young through the winter, before departing for the Southern Ocean at the beginning of summer. The Head of Bight is an important nursery area for these endangered giant mammals. Several other whale species also migrate through the area.
The Great Australian Bight Marine Park provides a unique tourism experience with one of the world's best cliff-top whale watching experiences that does not impact on the whales. Dolphins and Australian Sea-Lions also live here permanently within sight of the towering Bunda Cliffs and ancient sand dunes.
Whales are seen between May and October and are best viewed from the Head of Bight Visitor Centre. Access to the Marine Park is through Yalata Aboriginal Lands.
