Pildappa Rock
Pildappa is a spectacular sight - a rock with the highest and longest wave formations on the Eyre Peninsula, rivalling those of Western Australia's famous Wave Rock.
The highest waves are near picnic areas - one on the northern and one on the southern side of the rock. Long waves with platforms occur along the south-eastern end of the rock.
Pildappa is also known for its deep gnamma holes, which ensure a virtually permanent water supply. Just to the east of the deepest gnamma holes are the remains of a wall constructed across a large flat bottom pan. The wall was probably constructed to supply water for the buildings of the drain and tank system at the base of the rock.
Pildappa, like many granite outcrops around Australia, has an elaborate gutter system surrounding the base of the rock. As water runs off the rock during rain, it is caught and runs along the crumbling gutters to the huge tank in the scrub on the northern boundary.
Pildappa offers a beautiful view of the surrounding farming land, and unbroken view of the Gawler Ranges and Blue Sturts and Gawler Ranges to the north.
