The Dutchmans Stern Conservation Park
The Dutchmans Stern Conservation Park is named after the stern of an early Dutch sailing ship that it resembles. The park comprises 3,750 hectare of steep ranges, rock outcrops, deep gorges and footslopes. The wide range of habitats within the park conserve an abundance of flora and fauna.
In this park you will see changes in vegetation that reflect the associated rock type, the slope aspect and its altitude. There is a self-guided tour brochure available, which helps visitors to discover and appreciate the many features along The Dutchmans Stern loop trail.
There are two main walks within the park. The Dutchmans Stern loop trail, approximately ten and a half kilometres return, allow four hours. The Ridge Top Trail, approximately over eight kilometres, allow three hours. Heyson Trail passes through the park for a distance of 12 kilometres.
No bush camping and backpacker activity and no vehicles are allowed from 1 Novemeber to 30 April. The Heysen Trail must be used if camping east of the main ridge. Accommodation is available at The Dutchman Homestead and Shearers Quarters. Bookings are essential, please contact us for details.
