Wabma Kadarbu Mound Springs National Park
Fresh, flowing water in the middle of the desert?
Located along the famous Oodnadatta Track and set against the backdrop of one of the world’s most arid landscapes, Wabma Kadarbu Conservation Park protects naturally formed, free-flowing, thermal springs.
Amazingly, Australia’s dry and dusty outback is sitting over one of the world’s largest underground reservoirs, The Great Artesian Basin, containing an estimated 64,900 cubic kilometres of water - making the Basin some 13,000 times larger than Sydney Harbour!
Along the fringes of the Basin, at sites such as the Wabma Kadarbu Mound Spring Conservation Park, this water squeezes to the surface, carrying salts and sediment with it and over thousands of years forming ‘mound’ shaped springs with attractions including, ‘The Bubbler’ and ‘Blanche Cup’.
Continue on from the Conservation Park to Coward Springs just up the track or Dalhousie Springs in Witjira National Park, where you can enjoy a real outback experience by taking a dip in the thermal springs, and letting your troubles gently soak away.
Camping is permitted at Coward Springs, 10 kilometres away.
