Arid Zone Location Services offers tours around the town of Coober Pedy, Lake Eyre, Painted Desert and The Breakaways.

Town tours for people on a tight schedule take approximately two hours and visit all the major attractions inside the town area, excluding the main street, and include a visit to a dugout home an opal mine and also visit an underground church and the desert golf course. Breakaways Tours take approximately four hours and include everything you see on the town tour plus a trip out to the Breakaways.

A hundred kilometres up Oodnadatta Road from Coober Pedy is the turn off to The Painted Desert. The Painted Desert is a colourful natural display of sandstone and ochres in hues that artists love to capture. Also part of the Breakaway country further south, this area receives very few visitors in comparison, making it totally unspoilt and a photographers delight. It's another one of those places you have to be in person to truly appreciate.

Lake Eyre is the lowest point in Australia at 12 metres below sea level and the largest dry salt lake in Australia, a great way to see it is with our fly-drive package. We drive to William Creek then pick up a scenic flight over the lake and surrounding areas before returning to William Creek for lunch. A leisurely drive back after lunch thru the biggest cattle station in the world and the Dingo Fence to Coober Pedy rounds off your day.

Coober Pedy Township and Breakaways Four Hour Tour - AZLS02 Breakaways Tours take approximately four hours and include everything you see on the town tour plus a trip out to the Breakaways. The Breakaways, once part of The Flinders Ranges, have been broken away by the inland sea that used to cover this area between 60 -120 million years ago. Dozens of movies have been shot here including “Mad Max III” “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” “Ground Zero” “Salute of the Jugger” "Siam Sunset" and “Pitch Black” to name just a few. The Dingo Fence cuts through the middle of this park and you can drive thru the areas that were used for many major movie productions. Operates: Daily by arrangement. Coober Pedy Township Tour - AZLS01 Town tours for people on a tight schedule take approximately two hours and visit all the major attractions inside the town area, excluding the main street, and include a visit to a dugout home an opal mine and also visit an underground church and the desert golf course. You get taken to the outer "suburbs" where the real locals live and places you wouldn't normally get to yourself to give you a real idea of what it's like to live in the outback. Your guide will explain the benefits of underground homes and day to day living in practical terms and take you for a ride thru the opal fields themselves. Operates: Daily by arrangement. Lake Eyre 8 Hour Tour - AZLS04 We follow William Creek Road from Coober Pedy to the Dingo Fence, Oodnadatta Track and William Creek Pub. We stop for lunch before heading to spectacular Lake Eyre, the lowest point in Australia at 12 metres below sea level and the largest dry salt lake in Australia, before returning to Coober Pedy.
