Island Beehive Pty Ltd
Visit Island Beehive to learn more about Ligurian bees and their amazing life. Kangaroo Island was declared a sanctuary for this docile bee in 1885 in order to protect the bee's purity.
See the production factory, take a guided tour, and enjoy free tastings of organic honey. There's also delicious scones in the cafe and a shop with bee products, beeswax candles, souvenirs, health products and local arts and crafts.
Island Beehive is a tourist centre on the outskirts of Kingscote, established by Peter and Louise Davis. They are committed to the protection of the Ligurian Bee heritage. The Ligurian Bee is a South Australian State Bank Icon and was introduced to Kangaroo Island in 1884.
Island Beehive is very proud of its organic honey, which won "Best Organic Product" in the national, Audi sponsored, Vogue Entertainment plus Travel Awards announced in November 2005.
Island Beehive has excellent facilities and is wheelchair friendly throughout. Coach bookings are welcome. Full conference and IT facilities available.
Guided tours operate every half an hour. The tours include the production plant with information on beekeeping and the bee’s life cycle.
