Naracoorte Nature Park and Swimming Lake
Naracoorte Nature Park, an important area of remnant native vegetation, was opened by renowned naturalist Harry Butler in 1986.
The Nature Park contains many locally threatened flora species, and is home to a large number of native bird and animal species. A network of walking trails has been established, enabling visitors to experience nature up close.
Naracoorte Swimming Lake is an artificial lake situated on the bank of Naracoorte Creek on Naracoorte's northern outskirts. Covering an area of almost a hectare, the lake holds 11 million litres of water and is the only public aquatic facility in the town. Filtration and chlorination systems ensure that the lake water is clean and safe. Featuring extensive and well-maintained lawns and shady Red River Gums, admission to the lake is free. The lake is open for swimming from December to March and is a visitor attraction in its own right.
