Tantanoola Caves Conservation Park
Filled with a spectacular array of formations Tantanoola Caves, just 30 kilometres from Mount Gambier, is one of Australia’s most beautiful caves.
All imaginable limestone creations are on view in one easily accessible cavern. Among Tantanoola's breathtaking features are stalactites, stalagmites, wave-like shawls and rare oddities known as helicites, which defy gravity by growing sideways!
There is no waiting for a tour, simply join your guide in the cave and enjoy at your leisure.
Highlights include a crystal clear pool of water, which reflects the caves cascading cathedral-style formations. As well as the spectacular sight of thousands of tiny droplets clinging from slow growing stalactites that shimmer like stars.
Tantanoola is also one of Australia’s two dolomite show caves. With minerals such as iron and tannins, washing through the dolomite tinting the caves formations in stunning honeycomb, pink, brown and reddish hues.
Easily accessible, even by wheel chair and prams, Tantanoola is one of the few caves in Australia which caters for people with limited mobility.
Aboveground, visitors can stroll along the nearby cliff top walk and enjoy spectacular views of the coastline and the largest wind farm in the Southern hemisphere or enjoy a picnic in the pleasant surrounds.
