Loch Luna Game Reserve

Loch Luna Game Reserve was established in 1985 and comprises 1,905 hectares. The reserve consists of a range of water bodies including narrow creeks and shallow swamps.

The area contains a variety of environments that provide important habitat for many aquatic birds and mammals. Fishing, boating and enjoying the river are popular recreational activities.

Keep your eyes open for the Royal and the Yellow-billed Spoonbills. Listen out for the harsh call of the Darter as it regularly breeds in Loch Luna. Sea Eagles, Regent Parrots, Pelicans, White-faced Herons and many other birds inhabit the reserves. Kangaroos graze beside the creeks, and, if you are quiet, you might be able to spot a water rat swimming along the edge of the reed beds.

Campers are required to use the designated campsites located along the River and Chambers Creek. Camping permits are required when camping in the park.

During fire ban season, gas fires only are permitted and fire regulations must be observed. Outside this time, small fires only in designated campsites are allowed.

Canoeing – great fun, especially in Nockburra and Chambers Creek, Loch Luna.

Bird watching – waterbirds and dryland species.

Boat launching – off park access. Cobdogla and Kingston on Murray ramp.

Nature walk – Kaliwira Walk, Moorook, a 45 minute flood plain exploration.

Waterfowl hunting – is permitted in restricted areas on open days only. Note non-toxic shot only.

Be aware that there are dangerous snags in the creek especially during periods of high water. Move carefully up the creeks.

Enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the river and please, keep the noise levels to a minimum.

Dogs are not permitted in Loch Luna Game Reserve except as game dogs on open days, or on a leash in the causeway area between the Kingston Bridge Causeway and the River Murray in Loch Luna.
