Wheal Hughes Copper Mine

The Wheal Hughes underground copper mine at Moonta is an exciting adventure with visitors donning boots, hard hats and helmet lights. They descend to a depth of 55 metres to experience the massive chambers with multicoloured veins of ore and learn how Cornish miners worked in the 1800s.

Visitors must book at Visitor Information Centre, and be on site at the mine 15 minutes prior to tour. Special packages with other National Trust Mining Heritage sites can be pre-booked. Visitors are advised that a reasonable degree of physical fitness is required to tour the mine. Not available for children under six years of age. School groups and bus tours welcome, when pre-booked.
