Port Victoria Museum

The Port Victoria Museum is a small museum that tells great stories of the sea. From this port the last of the windjammers sailed to Europe in the late 1940s.

You can imagine how the town bustled in the heyday of the grain trade to Europe. The ketches jostling for position along the jetty, the windjammers anchored in the bay, the labourers loading grain, the horses and carts making their deliveries and the sailors busily preparing the ship or enjoying some relaxing hours on land.

Yorke Peninsula is a renowned mecca for recreational divers keen to explore the many shipwrecks along the coast. Port Victoria is the starting point for many a diver's underwater explorations. But landlubbers take heart. With its rich collection of shipwrecks artefacts on display, the Port Victoria Museum is the place for you to encounter the coast's shipwreck history.
