Situated on the pristine waters of Oyster Bay in Gulf St Vincent against a background of Norfolk Pines. Stansbury is a popular holiday and tourist destination for families, fishing or just relaxing the hours away. Located on Yorke Peninsula, a pleasant easy two and a half hour drive from Adelaide, Stansbury is an ideal base from which to explore Yorke Peninsula as it is centrally located for access to Innes National Park 110 kilometres to the south and the Copper Coast 110 kilometres to the north.

The post office building was built in 1877 and has undergone several extensions and alterations since that time. In May 1879, telegraph facilities were installed at Stansbury and a telephone exchange with one subscriber (the Jetty Hotel) was installed in August 1911. This was later extended to include outlying farms and was automated in 1962. Official operation of the post office ceased on 30 November 1984. A postal agency operated in part of the building prior to relocating nearby.

Once noted as having the best natural oyster beds in South Australia, Stansbury has more recently see the development of oyster farms now supplying local Pacific oysters.

Due to the large deposits of limestone under the top layer of soil, many beautiful older buildings and even fence lines are constructed from this rock.

Klein Point, now South Australia’s largest limestone quarry was established in 1919 and is owned and operated by Adelaide Brighton Cement. The mine supplies approximately two million tonnes of limestone to the Birkenhead plant at Adelaide and is shipped daily by the bulk carrier MV Accolate 11. The Accolade can be seen crossing the gulf early each morning and again, returning to Port Adelaide around midday.
