Stanton Bed and Breakfast
Magnificent convict-built Stanton sits in the heart of the historic and beautiful Derwent Valley. Comprising 16 acres of pasture and orchards at Magra, surrounded by towering hills and idyllic countryside, this romantic destination is five minutes from New Norfolk. Built c1817, Stanton is one of the oldest homes in Australia, only recently opened to the public.
Stanton has three bedrooms (deluxe room with ensuite, double and twin rooms with their own private bathrooms), living room, library, heated spa house and barbeque.
Stanton has all the modern comforts of home, but also the things one goes on holidays for - beautiful rooms with antique furniture, open fires, gourmet breakfast served on Wedgwood, lazy afternoons with a good book and glass of choice.
Stanton's walls have many stories, the most dramatic in February 1843 when bushranger Martin Cash arrived, held 16 people at gunpoint in the drawing room, collected the valuables, charmed the ladies, and galloped off to his cave in the nearby hills. Cash used this area as a base, and modern visitors find it likewise suitable - 30 minutes to Hobart, Russell Falls, 50 minutes to Richmond, Hobart airport, 90 minutes to Port Arthur, Lake Pedder, Tahune Airwalk.
