Redlands On The Riverbank
Redlands on the Riverbank is a large historic estate at Plenty in the Derwent Valley. It’s set amongst towering English trees on the banks of the trout-laden River Plenty, and dominated by the enormous original hop kiln. The other convict brick buildings include an 1823 homestead, stables, coach house and cottages, reminiscent of a small feudal village. Redlands is a working farm and a destination in itself.
Redlands Cottage, just for two, entered via a cobblestone courtyard. Cosy and welcoming, fully equipped for a peaceful, restful stay. The wisteria-covered cottage is steps away from a heavy door in the wall, where you can glimpse a secret garden filled with birdsong. Open the door and explore the trees and shrubs by yourself, or book a guided walk to find out more about the historic buildings and garden.
Whitevine Cottage, a two bedroom, two storey cottage, sleeping four, situated on the banks of the Plenty River.
It is a five minute walk to the leafy Salmon Ponds and Museum of Trout Fishing next door, once part of the Redlands estate before it became a trout hatchery. Enjoy gazing at the well-fed trout in the ponds, feasting on gourmet food in the tearooms.
