Penstock Lagoon

Penstock Lagoon is a Hydro Tasmania lake in central Tasmania. Located on the Central Plateau, the Lagoon is a short drive north of the historic town of Waddamana, and an hour’s drive south west of Cressy (80 kilometres).
Penstock Lagoon is a fly fishing-only lake, regularly stocked with brown and rainbow trout. This is a popular location for fly fishing enthusiasts and offers a variety of habitats, from weedy marshes to forested rocky shores. There is a campground and boat ramp on the lagoon’s western shore; the lake has no toilet or shower facilities.
You can visit Waddamana for an insight into the history of Tasmania’s hydro electric industry. Established as a hydro electric town in the early 1900's, power generated at Waddamana was used to light Hobart’s first lights in 1911.
You will need a licence to fish for trout in Tasmania’s lakes. A free brochure - ‘Fishing Code for Anglers’ is available from licence-selling agents and the Inland Fisheries Commission.
