Aunty Iris's Museum Dolls Tins and Matchboxes
Aunty Iris’s Museum - Dolls, Tins and Matchboxes - is a doll museum at Sheffield, northern Tasmania. Sheffield is located beneath the craggy peak of Mount Roland (1,234 metres/4,048 feet), 30 minutes' south of Devonport (30 kilometres/19 miles) and 90 minutes' west of Launceston (93 kilometres/58 miles).
Created by passionate doll collector Iris Gent, Aunty Iris’s Museum features a collection of over 1,500 dolls. The dolls date from the 1800s to the present day, creating a unique representation of the art of doll making over the last 150 years. The museum also includes a collection of tins and matchboxes.
Sheffield is known internationally for its collection of public murals, which depict the area’s rich history. Since 1986, dozens of murals have been painted in the town, ranging from large scale work by professional painters, to murals by local school children. Sheffield attracts over 100,000 visitors each year who come to admire this collection of public art. The town also hosts the annual Mural Fest – a national competition of mural art.
