Orford was established in the early 1800s as a shore station to service the convict settlement on Maria Island, 20 kilometres offshore. Today, Maria Island is a national park – a place without cars, shops or the pressures of day to day life. You can camp here among historic ruins and spend your days discovering sweeping bays, rugged cliffs and mountains and remarkable wildlife.
