Colonial Cottages of Ross - Captain Samuels Cottage
Captain Samuels Cottage provides fully self-contained historic accommodation in the peaceful town of Ross, Tasmania.
Built around 1830, this spacious cottage has three bedrooms and two large living rooms. Two bedrooms contain double beds and the third has two single beds. There is an additional single bed in one of the double rooms. From the living area, enjoy views of the river and mountains. A fully equipped kitchen, breakfast provisions and warm combustion wood heater offer modern conveniences. There is a large backyard and private access to the river. Affectionately restored, this cottage has kept the charm of early colonial days when it once housed low-security convicts.
Cook your barbecue on the original stove the convicts used and sit by the open fire.
Outside your thick sandstone walls, take a walk down the famous avenue of English Elms. Appreciate the historic ambience as you stroll down the village streets and admire the convict carvings on each arch of the beautiful Ross Bridge. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy lunch by the peaceful river.
About an hours’ drive from Launceston, Ross is 78 kilometres (48 miles) south along the Midlands Highway.
