Cromwell Cottage
Cromwell Cottage was built 1873 as a family home and remained so for more than 100 years. It has been carefully restored, and is now on the National Estate Register. It was built in timber in a mid-Victorian Gothic Revival style, has a steeply pitched roof, dormer windows, decorative bargeboards and a sunny veranda. The interiors reflects this history with antique furnishings and period decor.
There are five ensuite bedrooms and each feature cast iron beds or cast iron four-poster beds with electric blankets and doonas.
After a cooked breakfast you can head out of the garden gate and stroll the lanes of Battery Point, where the cottages have brass doorknobs and the streetlights are lamps. You are only 150 metres from the River Derwent, where whaleboats were slipped in the 1840s.
In five minutes you can walk to Salamanca Place and browse among the galleries, studios, antique and curio shops, and restaurants. Just round the corner are the small docks of Sullivans Cove, thronged with yachts and fishing boats. We offer you quiet privacy and comfort in the heart of the Battery Point – Hobart Town’s original village.
