Mulberry Cottage B & B
For the history and theatre lover!
Mulberry Cottage is an English style B&B.
Be tricked into believing that you are in an eighteenth century cottage in the wilds of England, or a restored building, but it was only completed in 2003.
Constructed behind Grannie Rhodes’ Cottage, c1830, with delightful views over the Coal River Valley.
Tariff includes continental breakfast and a visit to a performance of “Turn the Key of Time” at Grannie Rhodes’, in the cottage museum.
Mulberry Cottage is a copy cottage, built out of convict cut stone from the demolished wall of the gaol of the Old Penitentiary in Argyle St, Hobart. The long windows are from the courtyard of the old Marine Board building (also demolished!) Thumbprint convict bricks have been used in internal features; these bricks were baked on site with clay from the pit in which a large mulberry tree now stands.
The lovely gardens are new, and apart from the large trees, there was nothing on the site, it was just a field of weeds.
Your hostess, Miriam Cooper, is a recently retired teacher, but experienced in running B&B, having run Holm Lodge, in Bellerive, for 15years. Guests will be greeted by two, friendly, Retriever dogs, Ted and Scooter!
Currently available are ensuite rooms, either the Edwardian room or the French Boudoir. Standard attic rooms with private or share bathroom and guest lounge. A complimentary glass of wine or tea on arrival.
Three hundred metres from the main village (follow the signs), historic Richmond Bridge, 15 minutes from the airport and only 20 from the city centre of Hobart.
Visit the Convict Trail to Port Arthur and the scenic East Coast.
