Rafting Tasmania
Rafting Tasmania offers a range of adventures including rafting, canoeing and cycling tours for all ages and most levels of fitness, supervised by some of the most experienced and committed people in their fields.
Graham Mitchell, owner/manager, was one of the first 50 people to paddle the Franklin, and has journeyed down it more than 100 times.
You will be provided with all the specialist equipment and clothing required for your adventure. Comprehensive trip descriptions and gear lists are also provided. The guides are as skilled around the camp as they are on the River, and will provide you with gourmet meals made from fresh local produce.
Our adventures are designed to suit most people and are conducted at a moderate pace; they are not endurance events for the super-fit. Never the less, we ask that you choose an activity within your capabilities.
Full day, half day and extended rafting tours on the Derwent, Huon, Picton, North Esk and Franklin Rivers.

Rafting ToursRafting (and kayaking, canoeing and cycling) tours range from gentle flows through farmland to thundering whitewater. All equipment is supplied and meals are prepared by your guide at camps on longer tours. Day tours include: Derwent River: glide past hop-fields, willow trees, and farmland with the excitement provided by rapids at Broken and Railway bridges. Picton River: moderate rapids alternate with stretches of mirror- calm water lined with myrtles, leatherwoods and Huon pines. Four Day Franklin River: a memorable blend of wilderness and adventure. Leave Hobart by bus, and transfer to four-wheel-drive. The climb to the river is quite strenuous, but the spectacular Propsting Gorge with waterfalls, rainforest and rapids rewards the effort. At the Newlands Cascades campsite, deep pools of dark water are surrounded by luxuriant rainforest and spectacular overhanging cliffs. These features are a contrast to the pebble beaches and majestic forests that are experienced in the lower reaches of the River. On the final day join the Gordon River and paddle the final few kilometres to Sir Johns Falls. Early in the morning board the 60 foot yacht Stormbreaker. After cruising to Macquarie Harbour, weather permitting, the sails are rigged for our passage to Strahan. | |
