Windeward Bound Sailing Adventures

Come and enjoy the experience of a lifetime aboard the magnificent tall ship "Windeward Bound". The sounds of a sailing ship on a calm night, the thrill of handling heavy weather, dolphins diving before the bow, broadening your horizons, making friends, learning to respect, trust and care for the sea and your crew mates, gaining a real sense of achievement. Imagine all this and you are just beginning to imagine the adventure of participating in a voyage on the Windeward Bound.
This beautiful brigantine has become a National Icon and has been described as a national treasure. She has circumnavigated Australia emulating the discoveries and honouring the 1802 voyage of Matthew Flinders, whose logs and journals provide the earliest observations of many parts of the Australian coast. He recorded flora and fauna, as well as the many contacts with the indigenous Australians.
Be it our ‘Three hour Square Rig Experience’ or our 'Seven day Eco-Tour’ to the remote wilderness of Recherche and Port Davey, our voyages and adventures are about you learning how to sail a square-rigger, re-visiting places discovered by Matthew Flinders and other early explorers and places not normally accessible by any other means.

Seven Days/Six Nights Port Davey Wilderness Sail Tour

Imagine a natural waterway older than time itself. A waterway larger and more intricate than Sydney Harbour. A waterway that has never been settled by European humans and more importantly, it never will be. Can such a place still exist in this mad crazy and violent modern world? And where could it possibly be, and how can you visit this enigma? The answer lies only 115 nautical miles from Hobart, 115 miles in distance and a thousand years in time. The incredible World Heritage Area of south west Tasmania holds one of the world's best kept secrets in Port Davey and Bathurst Harbour – bigger than Sydney Harbour - mile upon mile of never settled waterways, totally sheltered from the sometimes wild Southern Ocean, a network of unique marine life undisturbed for millennia. Windeward Bound offers a unique and exclusive opportunity aboard our 35 metre Sail Training Brigantine with a strictly limited number of 10 adventurers per voyage. Discover this untouched wilderness twice a year, in March and November. You just need yourself and your sense of wonderment and adventure.

    Three Hour Square Rig Experience

Sail Hobart's Derwent River aboard Tasmania's largest tall ship. You will experience a three hour sail that includes a light lunch, Tasmanian cheese and fruit platter, coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
