Adventure Bay Holiday Village
Adventure Bay Holiday Village is located at Adventure Bay, South Bruny Island, two-hours south of Hobart. It offers self-contained accommodation and economy cabins through to powered sites. It’s a place of magical beauty and fascinating history and is famous for the Bennett’s white wallabies and endangered bird species that inhabit the park and surrounds.
The Holiday Village is on the beach front of East Cove and is the site where Captain Bligh planted the first apple trees, grape vines and vegetables to be introduced from Europe.
The early explorers, Cook, Furneaux, Bligh and d'Entrecasteaux, anchored here in the late 1700s and early 1800s, searching for the water and wood supplies needed to continue their journeys of discovery and were followed by the whalers and sealers. From the park you can walk to Penguin Island where in the early 1800s there was a whaler’s trading post. This site was excavated by archaeologists from Flinders University and there are interpretation boards along the walk and at the site of the excavation.
The fresh sea air will energise you for a walk to the top of Fluted Cape, from which Captain Bligh sighted Mt Wellington and the Derwent Estuary.
