Huon Choice Organic Blueberries and Petcheys Bay Vineyard Organic Fruit Wines
Huon Choice Organic Blueberries and Petcheys Bay Vineyard Organic Fruit Wines is located in Tasmania's Huon Valley. The farm is at Petchey’s Bay, an hours’ drive south of Hobart (80 kilometres/50 miles).
The Huon Choice organic blueberry farm produces commercial crops of plump juicy blueberries. During the summer harvest in January and February you can pick your own organically grown blueberries while taking in the fantastic views down the hillside to the mouth of the Huon River. Tasmania grows the "highbush" blueberry (vaccinium corynbosum), which is regarded as a superior variety, generally regarded in the catering industry as the best flavoured blueberries in Australia.
Blueberry and blackcurrant ports and wines are also produced here, under the Petchey’s Bay Organic Fruit Wines label. These wines are made with certified organic fruit and are free of any additives.
Fruit wine refers to any wine, fortified wine, liqueur or mead made from plant products that aren’t exclusively grape. In Tasmania, there are several commercial fruit winemakers using a range of fruits – including berries, apples, stone fruit, elderflowers and even Tasmanian native pepperberry. Tasmanian fruit wines are celebrated in the annual Tasmanian Fruit Wine Festival.
