Bruny Island Scenic Farm Tours offers a selection of guided tours on Bruny Island including farm tours on the north of the island, tours of the whole island, Variety Bay historical site tour and evening tours, observing nocturnal animals. Tours range from two hours, half day and whole day. We can specialise a tour to meet your individual needs. We offer tours for single individuals up to a maximum of four persons.
Your tour guide Leigh has lived on Bruny Island over 50 years and his ancestors were some of the first white people to settle and farm on the Island. He has a lifetime of knowledge and experience of Bruny and its surrounding waters.

Evening One or Two Hour ToursBruny Island Scenic Farm Tours offer one two hour tours of areas on North Bruny Island where you will have the opportunity to observe an abundance of wildlife including brush-tailed possum, eastern quoll, Tasmanian pademelon, Bennet's wallaby and Tawny frogmouth and if lucky witness Aurora Australis in the southern sky. Full Day Guided Tour of Bruny IslandTravel north through Barnes Bay, a favourite anchorage for yachts. Observe the Xanthorrhoes or Grass Trees on the way; many of these seen today would have been growing before white settlement. Travel through Dennes Point, originally settled by Captain James Kelly, a famed local inhabitant, whaler, harbourmaster, and explorer. Continuing south past Bull Bay, which had a whaling station in the 1820's, with panoramic views of Storm Bay, the 'Iron Pot' lighthouse, South Arm, Betsy Island and the Tasman Peninsula. Continue south stopping at The Neck, a narrow isthmus that separates North and South Bruny. This is the site of The Neck lookout and a memorial to Trugannini. Further south, through Alonnah and Lunawanna to Cape Bruny lighthouse, second oldest lighthouse in Australia, built with convict labour. Stunning views of Friar Rocks, and the southern ocean, return through Lunawanna and visit Cloudy Bay a popular surfing beach. Travel over Mount Mangana, the highest point on Bruny, observe tree ferns and rainforest, stop at a lookout with superb views of Cloudy Bay and Cloudy Bay Lagoon, then over Mount Mangana, the next lookout gives panoramic views of Adventure Bay, The Neck, North Bruny and D'Entrecasteaux Channel. Then we travel through Lunawanna and Alonnah and back to North Bruny. Half Day-Lennonville Waterview and Murrayfield Farm TourLennonville farm, Roberts Point. The homestead circa 1838 is the oldest house on Bruny Island. Observe fine merino sheep being moved by sheep dogs. July-September observe lambs being born and December –April observe sheep being shorn and general workings of a shearing shed. Visit the cherry orchard, where black heart cherries are grown and, picked and processed December-January. Waterview farm, North Bruny. The homestead circa 1840, overlooks Storm Bay with panoramic views of Iron Pot lighthouse, Betsy Island and Tasman Peninsula. Visit One Tree Point and walk along the secluded ocean beach. White Bellied Sea Eagle or Wedge Tail eagle can often be observed here as well as a variety of wildlife including Bennett's wallaby, echidna, native hen, forty spotted Pardalote and duck. Murrayfield farm, Trumpeter Bay, once a whaling station, is the largest farming property on Bruny Island, 1400 hectares and runs approximately14000 merino sheep. We will visit the 12 stand shearing shed, shearing and crutching are done December-January. We follow the coast to Variety Bay with breathtaking views of Storm Bay, where the Tasman Sea and Southern Ocean merge and at the same time view superb views of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. The scenery is absolutely magnificent. Variety Bay Historical Site Four HourTourA guided tour of the Variety Bay Historical Site, including the Pilot Station, which is one of the earliest Pilot Stations in Australia, established in 1831. The site includes foundations of three buildings-bakers oven, rock and brick lined cedar, circular rockwalled watchtower. Also visit the kiln site where the bricks used for the Pilot Station were made by convicts and fired on site. Remnants of three kiln foundations and clay pit remain. Also visit the site of St Peters Church ruin which was the first Anglican Church built south of Hobart Town and many services including marriages and baptisms were recorded there. A large brick kiln site, associated clay pit and water holes are located beside the church and the adjacent burial ground contains three to five known graves. The site is older than the Port Arthur ruins and has received heritage listing. It is constantly being restored by dedicated volunteers on the island. | |
